‎‎President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of a new Nigerian Army battalion in Omu-Aran, located within the Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, to strengthen security operations across the region.

‎The announcement was made in an official statement released by Mashood AbdulRafiu Agboola, the Deputy Chief Press Secretary to the Kwara State Governor.

‎The new military installation is designed to reinforce security efforts, particularly in regions of Kwara State impacted by banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes that threaten local communities.

‎In response to the development, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq praised President Tinubu for approving the new battalion, framing the decision as a critical step toward fortifying state security through additional troops and military hardware.

‎‎The governor also commended Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, the Chief of Army Staff, for rapidly processing the state government’s request for increased military boots on the ground.

‎Governor AbdulRazaq highlighted that the establishment of the battalion will drastically enhance the ability of security forces to counter threats from bandits, terrorists, and criminal networks operating in parts of the state.

‎‎”On behalf of the people and government of our state, I wholeheartedly thank Mr. President for yet another promise kept to the state. We are confident that the new battalion will greatly strengthen counter-terrorism and anti-kidnapping operations across various areas,” the governor said in the statement.

‎Additionally, Governor AbdulRazaq recognized the ongoing contributions of the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Nigerian Armed Forces, the Department of State Services, the Nigeria Police Force, and other security organizations working to address insecurity in Kwara State.

‎He reaffirmed that the state government will remain committed to supporting joint security efforts aimed at curbing kidnapping, banditry, and violent crime to safeguard residents across Kwara.
