‎The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared Abdulrasheed Abdullahi Maina, the former chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT), wanted in connection with a fresh case involving the alleged receipt of stolen property.

‎The anti-graft agency issued the public declaration on Wednesday in a statement signed by its Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale.

‎Maina, a 61-year-old indigene of Biu, Borno State, is being sought following new developments, years after his high-profile conviction over a massive pension fraud scheme.

‎The notice urged anyone with useful information on Maina’s whereabouts to contact the EFCC’s headquarters or any of its zonal offices across the country, including Lagos, Kano, Port Harcourt, Ibadan, Kaduna, Maiduguri, Enugu, Ilorin, Benin, Sokoto, Uyo, Gombe, and Makurdi—or report to the nearest police station.

‎Maina was originally arraigned alongside his son, Faisal, in October 2019 on a 12-count charge bordering on money laundering, identity concealment, and the diversion of over ₦2 billion in pension funds.

In November 2021, Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja, found him guilty on multiple counts, handing down a cumulative 61-year sentence to run concurrently, while ordering the forfeiture of ₦1 billion to the Federal Government.

‎During the initial trial, the court established that Maina operated bank accounts using the names and identities of family members without their knowledge to receive cash deposits running into hundreds of millions of naira, which were determined to be proceeds of unlawful activity.

‎The latest EFCC declaration marks a fresh legal entanglement for the former pension boss as anti-corruption authorities reopen efforts to apprehend him on the new charge.
