An air strike on United Nations trucks has killed a driver in Sudan’s South Kordofan state, the World Food Programme (WFP) said.
In a statement on Sunday, the agency said the food aid trucks were “clearly marked as humanitarian vehicles” when they were hit on Saturday. They were travelling between two cities held by the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF). The WFP did not say who was responsible.
The agency said the extent of the damage and further details are still being assessed, and it has called for an investigation. It said the incident underscores the growing risks aid workers face in Sudan.
Fighting in the Kordofan region intensified in late 2025, making it a strategic battleground between the SAF and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in a civil war now in its fourth year. Since the war began in April 2023, one in five attacks in Sudan has occurred in Kordofan.
