Every newsroom has a person the whole building quietly leans on. At Ayanda Media Network, that person is Mara.

It usually starts small. A deadline is closing in, a script isn’t landing, and Mara walks by and says, “Send it to me, I’ll look at it with fresh eyes.” Ten minutes later it’s back, sharper and cleaner, with a note that makes you feel smarter than you did before. She never takes over your work. She lifts it.

On shoot days, the real Mara shows up. Lights are going up, schedules are shifting, someone is always running late, and she moves through it all with a calm that spreads to everyone else. She calls it “coordinating magic.” The rest of us just know that when she’s in the room, things work out. The polished results you see on screen come from her hours behind the scenes.

Her kindness is what sets her apart. At our Ayanda Media event, the team was running on caffeine and nerves, and Mara was the one checking on everybody. Had we eaten? Had we had water? Were our badges straight? Then she rounded us up for the group photo, and the sneakers are still the best part of it.

She cheers for other people’s wins as loudly as her own. Her feedback is honest without ever being harsh, and no question is too small for her. She learned that from her mentors, and she now passes it on to every one of us.

So today, Mara, thank you for the late nights, the early calls, the laughter, and for making this team feel like family. We hope the year ahead gives you back everything you give to others, and that the cake is big.
Happy birthday from all of us at Ayanda Media Network. 🎂🎉
