The Oyo State Police Command has taken singer, Rolex Dee into custody, following allegations of cyberbullying and defamation directed at the popular Fuji musician, Taye Currency.
The arrest took place in Lagos after the singer appeared on the Agbaletu program.
Responding to online rumors suggesting the arrest was illegal, the police issued a statement via X to clarify the situation and debunk what they described as “unverified reports capable of misleading the public.”
Details of the Petition
According to the authorities, the investigation began after Taye Currency, who is based in Ibadan, filed a formal petition. The singer accused Rolex Dee of damaging his reputation and issuing threats to his life through various digital channels.
The conflict reportedly intensified after Rolex Dee’s appearance on the “Agbaletu” show, which subsequently went viral.
The Command highlighted that the widespread nature of the digital content played a role in the gravity of the charges.
“The suspect was alleged to have made defamatory utterances during a public programme known as Agbaletu, which subsequently gained widespread circulation online, thereby aggravating the impact of the alleged misconduct,” the command stated.
Rolex Dee remains in detention as the police continue to investigate the claims of character defamation and cyber-related misconduct.
