Cameroon’s World oldest Head of State Paul Biya back home after mysterious ten week absence

Cameroon President Paul Biya has stepped back onto home soil following an unexplained two-and-a-half-month stay abroad.

The 93-year-old leader, who holds the title of the world’s oldest serving head of state, originally departed for Geneva in June for what was described by his office as a short private stay.

However, as the weeks dragged on, his prolonged stay away from the country quickly dominated local headlines and sparked intense debate regarding who was actively exercising presidential authority and running government operations.

The rumor mill surrounding his physical condition grew so loud that an opposition parliamentarian formally petitioned the Constitutional Council to declare the office of the president vacant.

Hoping to calm public anxiety, Biya issued several official decrees during his time away, while his official social media channels routinely published messages in his name.

Because Cameroon lacks a designated vice president, discussions concerning political succession and state leadership are expected to persist even with his return.
