Binance expands transaction restrictions to 16 Crypto platforms impacting Nigerian traders

Cryptocurrency exchange Binance has introduced a broad compliance enforcement measure that restricts transactions with 16 crypto-asset service providers. The latest phase took effect on August 23, 2026, directly affecting platforms linked to Nigeria, including A7 Nigeria and A7 Africa.

The enforcement specifically impacts Nigerian digital asset users, as Binance had previously restricted transactions involving A7 Nigeria, A7 Africa, and PilotFinance Ltd starting August 13. Those steps followed earlier action taken on August 7, when Binance restricted Shelbit and Aban Tether Exchange.

Following a public announcement on August 14, Binance expanded its compliance list by adding 11 more service providers to the restriction schedule, bringing the total count of affected platforms to 16.

In its official notice to users, the company instructed customers to refrain from direct or indirect transfers, stating they should not send funds to, receive funds from, or otherwise engage in transactions through Binance involving the affected entities after their respective effective dates.

“Binance is required to adhere to the regulatory requirements in the jurisdictions in which it operates,” the exchange said, describing the restrictions as measures aimed at keeping the platform and users’ assets secure.

The group of 11 platforms added to the restriction list as of August 23 includes Rapira, Aifory Pro, ABCeX, WhiteBird, NoOnecrypto, Tradex, Monease, BitPapa, Exnode/Exnode Pay, HTX (formerly Huobi Global SA), and EXMO Ltd.

These entities join the five platforms restricted during earlier phases: Shelbit and Aban Tether Exchange (restricted August 7), along with A7 Nigeria, A7 Africa, and PilotFinance (restricted August 13).

For cryptocurrency traders in Nigeria, the status of A7 Nigeria and A7 Africa remains a key focal point, given that transfers tied to both services via Binance have been subject to processing holds since mid-August.

Binance noted that any transaction attempted with a blacklisted platform following its cutoff date may be flagged for compliance review. During such investigations, temporary restrictions could be applied to the associated user wallets.

The platform clarified that the policy change does not involve offlisting major cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin or USDT. These digital assets remain fully available for trading on the exchange. Instead, the policy targets counterparty platforms, meaning standard deposits or withdrawals routed to or from the named service providers will not be processed as usual.

Because Binance has not declared a fixed timeline for completing compliance checks, transactions flagged for review may experience processing delays rather than immediate rejections.

While Binance cited general regulatory requirements without pointing to a single specific statute, the targeted entities closely align with recent global sanctions lists aimed at crypto platforms accused of enabling sanctions evasion tied to Russia and Iran.

Fourteen of the listed platforms correspond with entities identified in the European Union’s 21st sanctions package regarding Russia, while Shelbit and Aban Tether Exchange were designated by United States authorities on August 7. Furthermore, international platforms HTX and EXMO were already subject to EU and UK sanctions before Binance issued its latest enforcement schedule.

The phased rollout suggests the exchange may institute additional restriction lists if international regulators issue further sanctions against other crypto service providers.

For Nigerian cryptocurrency holders, these developments highlight the necessity of verifying the regulatory and compliance status of external platforms before attempting cross-exchange transfers. The situation also demonstrates how international regulatory actions originating in Europe and the United States directly impact transaction workflows for local crypto traders using global exchanges.
