The Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, and Nigeria’s Ambassador-Designate to China, Abdurahman Bello Dambazau, held a diplomatic meeting in Abuja on Wednesday, with both sides reaffirming commitment to deepening bilateral relations.
Yu formally congratulated Dambazau — a former Chief of Army Staff — on his appointment. Posting on X, the Chinese envoy described the encounter as part of broader efforts to advance the China-Nigeria comprehensive strategic partnership under the leadership of President Xi Jinping and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“This year marks the 55th anniversary of our diplomatic ties,” Yu noted, adding that China has extended zero-tariff treatment to Nigeria and all African countries with which it maintains diplomatic relations — a move he described as opening major new opportunities for both sides.
Yu expressed China’s readiness to work with Nigeria to implement mbazau said the visit covered key areas including China’s One China Policy, which he acknowledged as a matter the Chinese government takes seriously in its international relations.
He also raised the issue of visa access for Nigerians, particularly those travelling for business purposes, describing it as an area requiring urgent facilitation.
