The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) has appointed David Fizdale as the new head coach of the senior men’s national basketball team, D’Tigers. Fizdale arrives with significant NBA pedigree, having previously held head coaching positions with the Memphis Grizzlies and New York Knicks.

The American tactician has expressed enthusiasm about his new role, crediting former D’Tigers coach Mike Brown as the man who convinced him to take the job, I’m super excited. I have Mike Brown to thank, who coached the team before and the year they beat the U.S. and played in Japan, Fizdale said.

Mike brought it up to me. After some good talks and going back-and-forth, we agreed that I was going to try to take the team to qualify. “Brown, who guided Nigeria to their famous upset victory over the United States at the Tokyo Olympics, reportedly recommended Fizdale for the position before his departure.
