Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have apprehended a man identified as Nwali Nwibo for allegedly fabricating and circulating false information regarding an invasion of the Nguzu Edda Community in the Edda Local Government Area of Ebonyi State by bandits and Fulani herdsmen.

The state command’s spokesperson, SP Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the arrest in a press statement released on Friday night.

According to Ukandu, the arrest was the result of a meticulous, intelligence-driven investigation carried out by the command. The investigation successfully proved that the invasion reports were completely false and ultimately led tracking down and securing the suspect.

Following the incident, the Ebonyi State Commissioner of Police, CP Hope Okafor, strongly advised residents to double-check the accuracy of any information before publishing or circulating it across social media and alternative digital platforms.

She warned members of the public that spreading fabricated news capable of triggering widespread panic, fear, or a breakdown of law and order carries serious consequences.
Furthermore, the Commissioner re-emphasized that the command is fully dedicated to tracking down and legally prosecuting anyone found guilty of generating or distributing fake news, strictly in line with existing laws.
