A Special Court for Kidnapping and Cultism in Benin City, Edo State, has sentenced four members of a kidnapping syndicate to death by hanging or lethal injection.
The convicts are Marvelous Isaac, 32; Gift Raphael, 27; Wisdom Michael; and Rufus Michael. They were arraigned on an 11-count charge that included kidnapping, conspiracy, armed robbery and possession of firearms.
Justice Aigbona Terry Momodu, who presided, held that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.The court heard that the convicts abducted a woman at the Vegetable Market, off Airport Road in Benin City. Her husband escaped.
Daily Trust reports that Governor Monday Okpebholo set up the Special Court to try kidnapping and cultism cases after the Vegetable Market incident.
