INEC shuts CVR portal today, says registration key to voting in 2027
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced on Sunday that the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise officially closes today, 26 July 2026, urging unregistered Nigerians to act before the deadline.
In a post on X, the commission said participation in the exercise remains a key requirement for eligibility to vote in the 2027 general election. “Time is running out, but there’s still an opportunity to make your voice count,” INEC stated, urging citizens to register or update their voter information before the window shuts.
The commission said Nigerians yet to register can do so through its CVR portal or by visiting any state or local government office before the close of business. It added that the exercise also covers voter transfer requests, correction of personal details, and replacement of lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
The CVR ran in three phases over the past year. The first phase began with online pre-registration in August 2025, followed by physical registration from 25 August, and closed in December with 2,572,054 completed registrations — 1,503,832 online and 1,068,222 in-person.
The second phase ran from 5 January to 17 April 2026, adding 3,748,704 completed registrations. INEC launched the third phase in May and extended it by two weeks in July before Sunday’s final deadline.The commission urged prospective voters not to delay further, describing registration as essential for anyone hoping to take part in next year’s elections.
