Malawi booked a historic place in the final of the CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) on Wednesday evening, defeating Algeria 3-1 in a fiercely contested semi-final in Rabat.

Captain Tabitha Chawinga was the star of the show, scoring twice, while her sister Temwa Chawinga added a third to seal the Scorchers’ passage to Sunday’s final. Ikram Adjabi pulled a goal back for Algeria in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to deny the tournament debutants.

Malawi will now face Cameroon, who beat Morocco 3-1 on penalties after a goalless draw, in Sunday’s final. Algeria will play Morocco in the third-place match over the weekend.
