Morocco claimed their first win of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, beating Scotland 1-0 in Boston in their second Group C fixture. Ismael Saibari scored just 71 seconds into the match with a clinical finish, enough to secure all three points and extend Africa’s longest unbeaten World Cup run to six straight matches without defeat.
The result moves Mohamed Ouahbi’s side level on points with Brazil at the top of Group C. Morocco’s last group-stage defeat came at the 2018 World Cup. Despite a late push from Scotland, the Atlas Lions held firm to protect their narrow lead.
Brazil kept pace with a 3-0 win over Haiti, as Matheus Cunha scored twice in the early stages before Vinicius Jr., who also provided an assist, added the third. The result eliminates Haiti from the tournament as bottom side in the group.Elsewhere, Turkey became the first major nation knocked out of the tournament, falling 1-0 to 10-man Paraguay.
Matias Galarza scored after 64 seconds, and Turkey couldn’t find an equalizer despite 78% possession and 32 shots with a man advantage for the entire second half. Paraguay’s Miguel Almiron was sent off for covering his mouth during a confrontation with a Turkish player — the first dismissal under the new rule introduced this year following an alleged racist slur directed at Vinicius Jr. in a Champions League match.
Co-hosts USA secured back-to-back wins to open a World Cup for the first time since 1930, beating Australia 2-0. Folarin Balogun’s cross forced an 11th-minute own goal from Cameron Burgess, before Alex Freeman sealed it in the 43rd minute.
