In preparation for Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary on October 1, the Federal Capital Territory Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has mobilized 3,000 personnel across Abuja as part of its security measures.
A statement issued on Tuesday by the FCT CDPRO, DSC Monica Ojobi, explained that the deployment was directed by FCT Commandant, Dr. Olusola Odumosu. The operation aims to reinforce security, uphold law and order, and safeguard lives and property ahead of, during, and after the national celebrations.
The deployment draws officers from specialized units within the Corps, including the Arms Squad, Female Strike Force, Crack Squad, Agro Rangers, Counter-Terrorism Unit, and the Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Explosives (CBRNE) Unit.
According to the command, officers will be stationed at key locations and high-risk spots across the federal capital. Targeted areas include Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI), motor parks, shopping malls, markets, and recreational centers.
The statement further revealed that Commandant Odumosu has dispatched undercover operatives to carry out intelligence gathering and covert surveillance, placing special emphasis on potential criminal hideouts. Unfinished structures and known security black spots within the FCT are under close monitoring to forestall any breakdown of law and order.
Area Commanders and Divisional Officers have been instructed by Odumosu to maintain an active operational presence within their respective Area Councils and ensure officers stay vigilant during the holiday.
Issuing a firm directive to his team, Odumosu warned, “As usual, I will not tolerate any form of security breach. All hands must be on deck. Ensure your personnel comply wholesomely”.
