Nigerian public servants under the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council (JNPSNC) have reaffirmed plans to begin a three-day warning strike on Friday, October 2, if the Federal Government fails to meet their demands.
The council, made up of eight public sector unions, wants petrol reduced to ₦500 per litre, a wage award approved, and negotiations started on a new national minimum wage of not less than ₦500,000 from 2027. It set a September 30 deadline.
In a statement on Tuesday, JNPSNC National Secretary and Nigeria Civil Service Union General Secretary Gbenga Olowoyo said the deadline remained sacrosanct and workers’ concerns could no longer be ignored. The council wrote to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on September 21.
