Bandits have abducted a Kebbi State High Court judge, Justice Faruku Hassan Bunza, from his residence along Zogirma Road in Bunza Local Government Area of the state.
Sources said the gunmen struck around midnight on Saturday, shortly after the judge returned from a trip to Sokoto. “He had just returned from Sokoto when the gunmen stormed his residence and took him away,” a source said, adding that no one in the house was harmed, though the attackers fired sporadically before fleeing with the judge.
The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed the incident. Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, said, “I can confirm that Hon. Justice Faruku Hassan Bunza was abducted from his residence in Bunza around midnight.”
He said the Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Muhammad Hadejia, has deployed tactical and intelligence operatives to comb identified locations, including forest areas, in a bid to rescue the judge alive and unharmed.
A senior official of the Kebbi State High Court, speaking anonymously, described the abduction as a painful development for the judiciary and said the court’s management has met with heads of security agencies in the state to strategize on securing the judge’s release.
No group had claimed responsibility as of the time of filing this report.
