Aliko Dangote, Africa’s wealthiest individual, has emphasized the value of modest living and humbleness, explaining that personal wealth and social standing should never elevate anyone above others.

Speaking on Monday during an event themed Vision 2030, the industrialist accepted a request from popular content creator Adebayo Ridwan, widely known as Bae U Barbie, to feature on his YouTube talk show, Curiosity Made Me Ask.

The billionaire reflected on his lifestyle philosophy, stressing that individuals should remain grounded regardless of their achievements.

“And also to show people that, look, in life, you have to be as simple as you can, because anybody can be anybody,” he said.

Expanding on his adaptable mindset, Dangote noted that he remains comfortable with basic living conditions despite his vast wealth.

“Today, if you take me to anywhere, if you take me to the worst hotel, I can sleep, I can have my shower, I can live,” he said.

“So because life is about simplicity, and make sure that, look, don’t take yourself up there,” he added.

To demonstrate his stance, Dangote shared a personal story about his friendship with the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, who spent eight years in office without employing a personal driver. He recounted asking the Ethiopian leader during a trip to launch a fertilizer plant why he drove himself, to which the prime minister revealed that his wife handles driving duties for him.

The billionaire’s comments followed Bae U’s pitch during the event, where the content creator pointed out that younger Nigerians deserve direct engagement with top business leaders. Bae U highlighted that Dangote’s previous interviews were mainly hosted on platforms unfamiliar to younger demographics who are eager to learn about his ventures and upcoming initial public offering.

In response, Dangote acknowledged the importance of engaging the youth, calling them the backbone of tomorrow and admitting that previous generations fell short in building the nation.

“Honestly, the future that we have is actually you, the youth. We, our own generation really, we have not really done very well for Nigeria and also for Africa. That’s the truth,” he said.

He added, “So we need to sit down with some of you and discuss our own experience with you.”

Dangote emphasized that younger audiences deserve attention because of the continuous respect and encouragement they extend to him.

He also addressed his willingness to take pictures with members of the public whenever approached. Recalling a childhood memory of visiting Washington with his late grandfather, where they met prominent figures and requested photos, Dangote explained that the encounter shaped his approach to accommodating fans today.
