The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Abubakar Audi, has promised complete cooperation with the presidential inquiry investigating the deaths of 37 illegal miners while in the Corps’ custody in Niger State.
Audi shared this during a sympathy visit to the Emir of Minna, His Royal Highness Umar Farouk Bahago, as well as to the families of those affected and the survivors.
He explained that the trip was aimed at offering his personal condolences and standing alongside the families in their time of mourning.
The NSCDC chief promised the families that no officer found responsible would be protected by the organization, emphasizing that fairness, openness, and responsibility would lead the process.
He noted that the Federal Government, following presidential orders, has assembled a high-level investigative panel to determine what led to the event.
Audi stated that the Corps is extending its full support to the panel, adding that the officers involved have been placed in protective custody to guarantee they are accessible for interrogation and to safeguard the integrity of the process.
He also participated in prayers alongside the Muslim community for the souls of the departed, asking for endurance and solace for the grieving relatives.
During the visit to Emir Umar Farouk Bahago, Audi engaged directly with both the survivors and the families of those who died.
Speaking for the traditional leadership and the grieving families, Emir Bahago thanked the Commandant General for visiting in person and for the quick administrative measures adopted by the NSCDC.
The Emir further commended the Corps for working alongside the presidential panel and offering support to the local community in their moment of loss.
