A joint security operation involving operatives from the Department of State Services (DSS) and forest guards has successfully intercepted a shipment of medical supplies reportedly bound for Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters in Borno State.

The operation took place on Friday in the Kaga Local Government Area of the state. The breakthrough was first reported by Zagazola Makama, a publication specializing in counter-insurgency and security analysis within the Lake Chad region.

According to security sources cited by the publication, the joint team successfully targeted a suspected logistics route utilized by insurgent networks operating through the forested areas of Borno State.

The seized cargo comprised a substantial cache of pharmaceutical products, including heavy-duty pain relievers, antibiotics, and anti-malaria injections. Various basic medical consumables, suspected to be intended for battlefield first-aid and resupply, were also recovered.

The publication noted that these supplies were likely meant to treat and replenish ISWAP forces following heavy casualties and logistical disruptions suffered during recent, intelligence-driven operations. Those operations were conducted by Nigerian security forces in coordination with the United States Africa Command.

As reported by Makama, this successful interception is part of a broader, ongoing strategy by regional security forces to dismantle insurgent logistics channels and cut off the flow of material and medical aid to isolated terrorist camps.

Initial investigations revealed that the traffickers were moving the medical goods in small, discrete batches. This tactic was deliberately chosen to slip past security patrols and surveillance checkpoints scattered along the volatile forest corridors.

The confiscated medical supplies have been securely taken into custody for forensic analysis.

Meanwhile, security agencies have launched a comprehensive investigation to track down, identify, and arrest the individuals responsible for organizing the shipment and managing the wider logistics network.

This latest bust highlights the ongoing military and intelligence efforts aimed at crippling the operational capacity of terrorist factions by systematically severing their lifeline supply chains across the North-East.
