UN Secretary-General António Guterres on Tuesday renewed calls for reform of the UN Security Council, describing the continued absence of permanent African representation on the body as unjust and indefensible.
Guterres made the remarks at the opening of the General Debate of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly at UN headquarters in New York.
With roughly 100 days left in his term, he framed the world’s major crises as expressions of a single underlying struggle over how power is exercised globally and by whom.
