Troops from Sector 2 of Operation Fansan Yamma have successfully liberated 41 travellers kidnapped by bandits in Tsafe Local Government Area, Zamfara State, after their vehicle broke down on the road.
The victims, who were journeying from Senegal to Kano State, were left stranded on the highway when their commercial bus suffered a mechanical breakdown. Reports indicate that the group consisted of “24 males, 10 females and seven children.”
An official statement released by the military operational team on Tuesday explained that the bandits capitalized on the passengers’ helpless situation and tried to force them into the adjacent terrain.
“Acting on actionable intelligence, troops swiftly mobilised to the scene and engaged the armed group with superior firepower,” the military statement revealed.
The relentless pressure applied by the soldiers compelled the abductors to leave the passengers behind and retreat into surrounding agricultural lands.
“All 41 victims were successfully rescued unharmed,” the military confirmed.
The freed individuals are now being provided with required care and assistance, with plans underway to reconnect them with their family members and transport coordinators.
Military authorities emphasized that forces remain deployed throughout the axis to safeguard road users and track down the escaping criminals. This rescue operation highlights the ongoing military campaigns across the North-West zone designed to dismantle bandit operations and secure key travel routes for the public.
