Kenya has recorded its second Ebola death as the outbreak spreads from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) to other parts of Africa.
The Ministry of Health said on Friday that the victim was a 65-year-old woman who developed symptoms while in quarantine. She was a close relative of a Kenyan man who died of the disease earlier this month.
Seven patients are being treated at two isolation facilities. The ministry said all cases belong to one cluster, with no evidence of community spread.
Kenya’s first case was a man who travelled from the DRC and died at a Nairobi hospital on October 5. Authorities have since traced 135 contacts and placed all of them in quarantine. Nine cases have been confirmed, including the two deaths.
