A potential tragedy was averted on Thursday at Benin Airport in Edo State when an Enugu Airlines commercial plane carrying at least 68 passengers crash-landed and overshot the runway.
The aircraft, bearing registration number 5N-ENR, was operating an Enugu-Benin-Lagos route when the incident occurred, causing the plane to veer off the tarmac and into a nearby bush.
An airport official, who requested anonymity, confirmed that emergency response teams were immediately deployed to ensure the safety of everyone on board.
“The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) immediately swung into action, and all the passengers were evacuated. No casualty was recorded,” the source said.
While all 68 passengers were successfully brought to safety without injuries, the exact number of crew members aboard at the time of the crash-landing remains unconfirmed.
Relevant authorities are expected to issue official statements regarding the cause of the runway overshoot and the condition of the aircraft.
