National Drug Law Enforcement Agency operatives have intercepted a cunning drug smuggling scheme in which high-potency narcotics were concealed inside water purifier machines shipped from the Netherlands to Lagos, as the agency simultaneously recorded arrests and seizures across Kaduna, Niger and Enugu states. The discovery was made on May 26, 2026, at a courier facility, where operatives recovered 3 kilograms of ketamine and 199 grams of MDMA hidden inside the appliances.

NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, confirmed the find in a statement released on Sunday, describing it as part of a broader wave of coordinated enforcement operations across the country.

In Kaduna State, operatives on May 24 arrested a couple — Musa Sunday and Mercy Sunday — and a third suspect, Salomi Ezekiel, after recovering 1,246 kilograms of cannabis packaged in 100 jumbo bags from their residence in the Gonin Gora area.

On the same day, along the Abuja–Kaduna highway at Jere, a separate operation led to the interception of Sunusi Musa, 30, who was found in possession of 380 rounds of 7.62mm military-grade ammunition reportedly bound for Katsina State. He was handed over to the appropriate security agency for further investigation.

In Niger State, intelligence-led operatives on May 27 raided a warehouse in Gidan Kukah, Bosso Local Government Area, recovering 457 kilograms of cannabis. A suspect, Godwin Zakka, was subsequently arrested at his residence in Minna in connection with the seizure.

Enugu State recorded its own bust on May 28, when operatives patrolling the Onitsha–Enugu expressway intercepted a commercial vehicle and found 22,000 tramadol pills, 100 ampoules of pentazocine and 200 grams of bromazepam on board. Suspect James Maigari Wisdom was arrested at the scene.

Beyond enforcement, the agency’s War Against Drug Abuse sensitisation campaign continued in parallel, with lectures and outreach programmes held in schools, worship centres and communities across Cross River, Taraba, Lagos and Anambra states.
