The Police Service Commission (PSC) has cleared the promotion of 93 senior police officers to their next respective ranks. The advancements follow the candidates’ successful performance in both written examinations and oral interviews hosted at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
The announcement was detailed in a statement issued on Wednesday by PSC spokesperson Torty Kalu, reflecting the decisions reached during the commission’s plenary session at its corporate headquarters.
According to the official release, the evaluation resulted in the elevation of 13 Commissioners of Police (CPs) to the rank of Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs).
Additionally, 17 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) advanced to Commissioners of Police (CPs), 28 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) moved up to Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs), and 33 Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) were promoted to Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs).
The newly appointed Assistant Inspectors General of Police are Itam Nnaghe Obono, Bassey Samuel Ewah, Osagie John Agans-Irabor, Monday Agbonika, Iyamah Daniel Adebor, Isa Danladi Nda, Akaninyene Ezima, Livingstein Ikioye Orutugu, Afegbua B. Rashid, Edozie Hycenth Azuka, Haruna Alaba Yahaya, Emenari Ifeanyi Innocent, and Betty Enekpen Otimenyin.
Furthermore, the 17 Deputy Commissioners of Police climbing to the substantive rank of Commissioners of Police include Nelson Nwamanna, Bolanle A. Murtala, Danbaba Mohammed Labbo, Ajayi Oluyemi, Oki Rita Oyintare, Ibrahim Umar Zungura, Iya Umar Mohammed, Darma Nuhu Na’aliyu, Nuruddeen A. Sabo, Tijjani Murtala, Yakubu Mohammed, Ibrahim Lukunche Usman, Akingbade C. Adeyinka, Mohammed Hassan Ahmed, Samuel Erale Ahmed, Adedeji Taiwo, and Zainab A. Pembi.
Alongside these senior tier shifts, the commission authorized the progression of 28 ACPs to DCPs and 33 CSPs to ACPs. Beyond the senior cadre, the PSC also confirmed the promotion of 162 Assistant Superintendents of Police II (ASP II) to the substantive rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police I (ASP I).
Following the conclusion of the exercise, the Chairman of the Police Service Commission, retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police Hashimu Salihu Argungu, extended his congratulations to the elevated personnel. He pressed them to validate the trust placed in them by delivering exemplary public service.
Argungu tasked the officers to maintain transparency, truthfulness, and strict accountability while executing their duties.
He further counseled them to preserve high professional standards and completely avoid meddling in civil disagreements, particularly land ownership disputes.
The PSC chairman concluded by reminding the officers to protect their personal and professional honor throughout their careers, underscoring that public duty must be driven by integrity.
“Guide your reputation and integrity. Let your actions speak for you and not against you,” Argungu stated, noting that all officers must keep in mind that life continues well after retirement.
