Iran has offered a seven-day plan to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, but US President Donald Trump has rejected the proposal, according to reports.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced the plan on Friday at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, where world leaders have gathered this week. He said Tehran had conveyed the proposal to Washington through Qatar, adding that normal maritime passage through the strategic waterway could resume within seven days if certain conditions were met.

“The choice now rests with the United States. Iran does not accept coercion, threats, or intimidation, and Iran will not surrender its sovereign rights under pressure,” Araghchi said.

However, hours later, The Wall Street Journal reported that Trump had turned down the plan, citing officials familiar with the matter. The report said Trump was doubtful Tehran would meet his demands and considers a renewed bombing campaign likely.

Trump also posted an image to his Truth Social platform showing a map of the Strait of Hormuz labeled “Trump Strait.

“The Strait of Hormuz, a critical corridor for global oil supply, sits at the center of the US-Iran conflict, now in a stalemate after nearly seven months. Araghchi had earlier met Trump’s envoy, Steve Witkoff, on Tuesday for talks at the UN gathering. Earlier reports suggested the plan also called for a seven-day ceasefire across the Middle East, including Lebanon.
