Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived back in Nigeria following his participation in the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit held in New Delhi, India, where he represented President Bola Tinubu.

A statement issued on Tuesday by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media & Communications (Office of The Vice President), highlighted that Shettima took part in high-level sessions and conducted bilateral meetings to push forward the economic and diplomatic agenda of the nation.

While in New Delhi, the Vice President met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to deliberate on mutual priorities, including crude oil trade, foreign investment, digital infrastructure, fintech, pharmaceuticals, defense, renewable energy, and other key areas.

Shettima also held talks with World Trade Organisation Director-General Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, during which he reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to supporting multilateralism and building a fairer global economic system.

Addressing the summit on behalf of President Tinubu, the Vice President advocated for the restructuring of global governance and international financial institutions. He further highlighted Nigeria’s strategic role as a primary gateway to the continent’s market under the African Continental Free Trade Area.

Throughout the gathering, the Nigerian delegation focused on strengthening ties with BRICS members and partner states across multiple sectors, including artificial intelligence, healthcare, agriculture, digital network infrastructure, energy, manufacturing, and human capital development.
