NFF president, secretary-general resign amid pressure ahead of elective congress

The duo of the President and General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau and Dr Mohammed Sanusi, have resigned their positions with the football house.

Confirming the development, Dr Sanusi, the immediate past chief scribe of the federation, told Daily Sun that the resignation was true, saying: “Yes, the news about the resignation of the president and myself is true.”

Gusau, while fielding questions from the media during the unveiling of the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) on Wednesday, claimed he was not under any form of pressure over the development. The resignation comes after intense pressure was mounted on the pair, barely a few weeks before the NFF’s elective congress, scheduled for September 27 in Lafia, Nasarawa State. It marks the first of its kind in the history of the administration of football in the country.

The federation’s leadership has been locked in a running battle with the Shehu Dikko-led National Sports Commission (NSC) over various issues, resulting in the NSC starving the NFF of funds needed to prosecute administrative, national and international tournaments.
