Arsenal are back in the Champions League final for the first time in 20 years after edging Atletico Madrid 1-0 at the Emirates to seal a 2-1 aggregate victory in their semi-final tie.
Bukayo Saka, captaining the side, scored the decisive goal on 41 minutes, reacting quickest to a rebound off Trossard’s shot to net his 11th UCL goal for the club.
Mikel Arteta handed a surprise start to Myles Lewis-Skelly, with Trossard and Viktor Gyokeres leading the line. Arsenal dominated the first half, had a penalty appeal waved away, then made their pressure count through Saka’s strike.
Atletico threatened early in the second half when Giuliano Simeone broke through, only to be denied by Gabriel’s intervention.
Arsenal managed the game from there to grind out the result.The win extends Arsenal’s unbeaten run against Spanish opposition to eight games.
They now await either PSG or Bayern Munich in the final at the Puskas Arena on May 30 chasing their first-ever European Cup.
