PSG are heading to Budapest. A clinical early strike from Ousmane Dembélé and a disciplined defensive display saw Luis Enrique’s side beat Bayern Munich 1-0 at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday, advancing 6-4 on aggregate to set up a Champions League final showdown with Arsenal on May 30. It took PSG less than three minutes to settle the tie. Fabian Ruiz split Bayern’s defence with a precise through ball, releasing Khvicha Kvaratskhelia down the left. The Georgian brushed past his marker, cut inside, and squared for Dembélé perfectly placed, as ever to slam home. The Ballon d’Or winner’s finish was…
The Federal Government has banned recipients of honorary degrees from using the “Dr” title, in a move aimed at curbing decades of abuse in Nigeria’s academic honours system. Education Minister Tunji Alausa announced the directive on Wednesday at a media briefing in Abuja, disclosing that the Federal Executive Council approved the decision at its April 30 meeting. Alausa said the policy was long overdue, citing a troubling pattern in which universities had turned honorary degrees into instruments of political patronage and financial gain. He noted that serving public officials had also been recipients a practice he described as a violation…

Arsenal are back in the Champions League final for the first time in 20 years after edging Atletico Madrid 1-0 at the Emirates to seal a 2-1 aggregate victory in their semi-final tie. Bukayo Saka, captaining the side, scored the decisive goal on 41 minutes, reacting quickest to a rebound off Trossard’s shot to net his 11th UCL goal for the club. Mikel Arteta handed a surprise start to Myles Lewis-Skelly, with Trossard and Viktor Gyokeres leading the line. Arsenal dominated the first half, had a penalty appeal waved away, then made their pressure count through Saka’s strike. Atletico threatened…

Some chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Yobe State have rejected the endorsement of former Secretary to the State Government, Baba Malam Wali, as a consensus governorship candidate, declaring support for Senator Ibrahim Mohammed Bomai. The stakeholders, drawn from the three geopolitical zones of the state, stated their position on Sunday at a meeting held in Potiskum.Speaking on behalf of the group, one of the organisers, Yusuf Zaki, faulted the process that produced Wali, saying it lacked broad consultation. “The decision did not emanate from the majority of party members across the three zones and does not reflect…
Sir Alex Ferguson was taken to hospital from Old Trafford on Sunday after falling ill ahead of Manchester United’s Premier League fixture against Liverpool. The 83-year-old departed the stadium over an hour before kick-off, with sources confirming the hospitalisation was a precautionary measure and that he is expected to return home shortly. Ferguson, who remains a devoted presence at United matches home and away, is no stranger to health scares. In May 2018, he survived a life-threatening brain haemorrhage that required emergency surgery, from which he made a full recovery. There is no indication Sunday’s incident bears any connection to…
