A commercial motorcyclist, Kelvin Ogaga, has been apprehended by operatives of the Command Anti-Vice Squad (CAVS), Sector 2, Ughelli, in connection with the alleged abduction of a three-year-old girl who was successfully rescued during the operation.

The incident came to light on May 18 when the victim’s father lodged a complaint with the police. He explained that the suspect had been trusted with the daily responsibility of transporting the young girl to her school before she disappeared.

Police investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly took the child and subsequently reached out to her family, demanding a ransom of ₦500,000 to secure her freedom. Following negotiations, the family reportedly paid the demanded sum to ensure the child was released.

Using intelligence-led tracking, police operatives located and raided the suspect’s hideout in Ughelli, leading to his arrest and the safe recovery of the little girl.

Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, stated that ₦127,000 was retrieved from the suspect. He noted that the recovered cash is suspected to be part of the paid ransom.

Additionally, authorities seized the motorcycle utilized during the crime along with other properties believed to have been purchased with the ransom money.

The suspect is currently being held in custody while further investigations are carried out.
