ICPC: Fake agency boss forged documents to pose as federal appointee

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission has found that the purported appointment of Adeyemi as head of the disputed Presidential Financial Intelligence and Prosecution Commission (PFIPC) was fabricated, with all supporting documents forged.

ICPC Chairman Musa Aliyu disclosed the preliminary findings on Thursday after briefing President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja — exactly 30 days after Tinubu ordered a full investigation into the agency.

Aliyu said the commission’s probe confirmed Adeyemi was never appointed by the Federal Government, and that the appointment letter, gazette and other documents used to establish the PFIPC were forged.

He said the investigation also exposed weaknesses in government verification and inter-agency oversight, which were exploited to create the false impression that the PFIPC was a legitimate federal body.

“Our interim report found that there are weaknesses in verification, inter-agency oversight and government processes. We discovered that those weaknesses were exploited by Adeniyi, with some level of negligence,” Aliyu said, adding that no federal funds were approved or disbursed to the fake agency.

Investigators also uncovered two more agencies allegedly set up by Adeyemi — the FCT Investment Promotion Agency (FIFA) and the Foreign Investment Promotion Agency and Public Private Partnership (PIPA-PPP). Aliyu said forged legislative instruments, styled as enabling acts, were used to open bank accounts for the entities.
