Nigeria have reached the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women’s African Cup of Nations after a 6-2 victory over Egypt in their final Group C fixture on Wednesday. The result secured second place for the Super Falcons behind Malawi, setting up a quarter-final meeting with rivals Cameroon.
Three of Nigeria’s six goals came from the penalty spot, with Asisat Oshoala — a record six-time Women’s African Footballer of the Year — Christy Ucheibe and Rasheedat Ajibade all converting.
Nigeria finished level on six points with Zambia and Malawi after three games. With overall group goal difference unable to separate the trio, CAF’s regulations required a head-to-head comparison using only results among the three teams. That calculation pushed Zambia into third place despite the Copper Queens winning two of their three matches.
Zambia had looked set for top spot after Barbra Banda, the tournament’s leading scorer, struck inside the first two minutes, before Prisca Chilufya doubled their lead before half-time. But a 72nd-minute goal from Tabitha Chawinga lifted Malawi to the summit of Group C, despite trailing in that match.
