Troops of Sector 2, 135 Special Forces Battalion under Operation Hadin Kai have dismantled a JAS/ISWAP roadblock along the Buratai–Kamuya road in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State, rescuing 53 civilians and recovering eight vehicles.
Acting Military Information Officer at the Headquarters Joint Task Force, North East, Captain Mohammed Goni, said the operation was conducted on Wednesday, June 24, as part of the ongoing offensive against JAS/ISWAP in the North East.
Goni said troops stationed at Dutse Kura spotted the terrorists blocking the highway via surveillance cameras, prompting a Quick Reaction Force to mobilise to the scene. The QRF pursued the insurgents toward the Mangari–Dora area, engaging them in a firefight that forced the terrorists to withdraw in confusion.
During the operation, troops rescued 53 civilians and recovered eight vehicles previously seized by the insurgents. They went on to clear the terrorists’ withdrawal route and dominate the area, though no further contact was made.
All rescued civilians, recovered vehicles, and other property were moved to Buratai town, where the civilians are undergoing documentation and medical evaluation.The Theatre Command commended the troops’ professionalism and swift response, and urged residents within the Joint Operations Area to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
The military says the general security situation in the area remains calm, with troops maintaining an aggressive posture.
