Lionel Messi set up both Argentina goals as the Albiceleste came from behind to beat England 2-1 in the 2026 FIFA World Cup semi-final in Atlanta, booking a final date with Spain.
England took the lead in the second half when Anthony Gordon converted Morgan Rogers’ deep cross. Argentina pushed for an equaliser, with saves from Nico Gonzalez’s effort and a MacAllister header off the post before Enzo Fernandez levelled in the 85th minute, curling in a shot from just outside the box after a Messi pass.
In stoppage time, Messi delivered a cross for substitute Lisandro Martinez to head home the winner. The match had opened with a physical edge, with Martinez and England’s Elliot Anderson both booked for heavy tackles.
Argentina will face Spain on Sunday, chasing a chance to become the first nation to win back-to-back World Cups since Brazil in 1962.
