The Federal Government has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Nnani Adaobi Marian, a 23-year-old Nigerian medical graduate who died from injuries sustained during a Russian airstrike in Kharkiv, Ukraine.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through spokesperson Kimiebi Ebienfa, described the incident as tragic in a statement issued Tuesday, extending condolences to the deceased’s family, friends, and the wider Nigerian community.
According to the ministry, Marian, a graduate of Kharkiv National Medical University, succumbed to injuries sustained during the aerial bombardment. The government said it has begun working with relevant authorities and Nigeria’s diplomatic missions in Ukraine and Germany to establish the full circumstances of the incident and provide consular assistance to her family.
The ministry also reaffirmed Nigeria’s concern over the humanitarian toll of the ongoing conflict, noting that civilians continue to bear the brunt of the war, and renewed its call for an immediate end to hostilities, urging all parties to embrace dialogue and peaceful resolution in line with international law and the UN Charter.
The Federal Government further assured Nigerians abroad of its commitment to their welfare, saying it would continue monitoring the situation and offering consular support where necessary.
