Tinubu Orders ICPC Probe Into Fake Presidential Council, Forged Appointment Scandal

President Bola Tinubu has directed the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to launch a full investigation into the “Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council” (PFIPC), a body the presidency says does not exist under any law or government instrument.

The President has ordered the probe concluded within 30 days, with a detailed report submitted directly to him. Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed the directive in a statement on Tuesday, explaining that the fictitious council surfaced after one Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew presented himself as its Director-General, falsely claiming to be a presidential appointee.

Onanuga said the ICPC’s probe will cover forged appointment letters and government documents, attempts to use the fake title to secure official recognition and diplomatic support including visa facilitation, and the opening of multiple bank accounts in the names of purported government agencies using allegedly forged papers.

Tinubu also directed the commission to trace the source and movement of any funds involved, and to establish the role of any public officer, financial institution, or private individual who may have enabled the scheme.

Beyond prosecuting those responsible, the President wants ICPC to identify institutional loopholes that allowed the fake body to gain an appearance of legitimacy and recommend measures to prevent a repeat. All MDAs have been directed to cooperate fully with the commission.
