President Bola Tinubu has renewed the tenure of Malam Ali Muhammed Ali, Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), for another three-year term.
The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday. Onanuga said the President also renewed the tenure of the Director-General of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Malam Abdulhamid Dembos.
He explained that both Dembos and Ali were first appointed on October 20, 2023, and that their second terms will commence on October 20, 2026. According to the statement, Dembos, who hails from Adamawa State, is a former National President of the Radio, Television, Theatre and Art Workers Union (RATTAWU). He previously served as Executive Director of Marketing at NTA after his retirement in 2017.
Dembos joined NTA as an announcer at the Kaduna Station in 1989, after his National Youth Service. He rose through the ranks to serve as General Manager at NTA Lokoja and NTA Kano, before retiring as acting Zonal Director of the NTA Kaduna Network Centre in 2017.
Onanuga described Ali as a veteran journalist and media manager with over 30 years of experience, noting his strong interest in media evolution and content development in the digital era. Ali holds a first degree in English from Bayero University, Kano; a graduate degree in International Affairs from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria; and a Postgraduate Diploma in Mass Communications from Bayero University, Kano.
Tinubu urged both chief executives to justify the confidence reposed in them by remaining committed to their organisations’ mandates and to the promotion of the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
