Teyana Taylor and rap duo Clipse emerged as the biggest winners at the 2026 BET Awards, while Nigerian stars Wizkid, Burna Boy, Tems, and Asake failed to convert their nominations into wins.
The ceremony, held Sunday at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles and hosted by comedian Druski, recognised achievements across music, film, television, and sports.Tems went into the night with three nominations — Best Female R&B/Pop Artist, BET Her for her single “First,” and the Viewers’ Choice Award for “Raindance,” her collaboration with British rapper Dave.
She left without a win in any category, though her live performance of “What You Need” was among the night’s standout moments. Kehlani won Best Female R&B/Pop Artist, while Doechii and SZA claimed the BET Her Award for “girl, get up.”
Mariah the Scientist took the Viewers’ Choice Award for “Burning Blue.”Wizkid and Asake also missed out in the Best Group category, losing to Clipse, who had a dominant night, also winning Album of the Year for “Let God Sort Em Out” and Best Collaboration for “Chains & Whips” featuring Kendrick Lamar.
Burna Boy’s feature on Gunna’s “WGFT,” nominated for Best Collaboration, lost out to “Chains & Whips.” South African singer Tyla also went home without a win despite nominations for Video of the Year and the Viewers’ Choice Award for “Chanel.
“In the film categories, Ayo Edebiri and Cynthia Erivo were beaten to Best Actress by Teyana Taylor, while British-Nigerian actor Damson Idris lost the Best Actor award to Michael B. Jordan for his role in “Sinners.”
